Lia and I met at the end of a band rehearsal in 2002. Mr. Walker actually introduced her to us and said: “yo G this Lia she’s going to help Y'all come up some baselines for the stands!” Of course, I was like “how is she going to help us? She doesn’t even play a bass instrument?!” To this day, I have no idea what Mr. Walker was talking about.; and neither does she!.So initially, I really didn’t pay that much attention to her; mainly because I had a serious case of tunnel vision at the time.  We had our first conversation on a bus going out of town and I thought she was cool! Some time went by and she eventually put her name and number on my phone because I didn’t have the guts to make the first move myself. I did call her however and from then on we became good friends that eventually turned into soul mates. Over the years we’ve certainly had our share of ups and downs, but through it all, she stayed incredibly patient and continued to love me even when I didn’t deserve it. She has helped me grow into the man I needed to be in order to prepare to have a family. I have no doubt that she will make a great wife and eventually a great mother. I am extremely grateful to have her in my life, and I look forward to sharing the rest of my life with her.

I remember the first time I noticed Derrick….like REALLY noticed him. I was a freshman in the band at SSU and I joined late, so I didn’t go to band camp or anything. Anyway, I always knew he was there and I thought he was cute but I didn’t really pay attention to him because I thought he was an upperclassman and he was kind of intimidating. Then, on our very first band trip, we happened to ride the same bus and I ended up sitting with a friend of mine just a few seats in front of him.  I found myself looking back at him quite often and I started to notice how just how cute he was.  During the ride, I found out that he was a freshman as well and I noticed what an incredibly nice guy he was.  From then on, I was a full-on Derrick Snead fangirl.  A few weeks later, I put my dorm phone number in his Nokia and he called me that night and left the most hilariously shy, but cute, message on my answering machine. This was back in 2002. Since then it’s been a roller coaster ride. We came into our adulthood together and have experienced many growing pains along the way. During this journey, I’ve found my best friend (this came BEFORE an actual relationship), my confidant, my lover, and the other half to my soul. It sounds cheesy, but he really part of me. I feel like I am a better person because he is in my corner and I am incredibly thankful to God for sending him to me.
